Culture and Practice

This research theme works to understand the changing spaces and spatialities of social life and cultural practice.

Steve Pile and Sara MacKian have looked at cultural and embodied mediations of urban experience. In addition, Steve Pile's work on psychoanalystic geographies has opened up new ways of thinking about affectual registers over distance. George Revill's investigation of soundscapes has contributed in expanding the sensory landscape in geography. Expertise on the mobilities and mobilisations of people, things, and ideas, including work on historical and contemporary cultures of mobility have also enriched and broadened the strength of this research theme (see the work of Parvati Raghuram, Kevin Hetherington, Sandip Hazareesingh and George Revill).
